Powering the Global Conversation
Recent climate action is facing big changes, mainly due to Trump administration policies in the US. Renewable energy investors face risks from Trump's tariffs, which could raise solar project costs by 2.5-3.5%. Battery storage could see a 145% tariff on Chinese imports. The US might lose its clean energy edge as projects are scrapped and Inflation Reduction Act cleantech incentives are threatened. This could let China, with its cheap manufacturing, lead in EVs, batteries, and storage. Moverover, US climate charities might lose tax-free status, creating funding issues as Trump cuts policies. Some are focusing on related areas like food security to maintain support. Overall, US climate action is shifting significantly, impacting renewables, global institutions, and charities, with potential worldwide effects.
In this new era, this FT session convened FT climate experts to offer clarity and practical insights for seizing opportunities amidst this evolving landscape. While US actions have global ripple effects, the discussion explored how the world is responding, how businesses are building strategies to absorb these changes and highlight how those that are maintaining their climate progress.
